Matsya Purana — Navagraha Sacrifice for Planetary Pacification and Prosperity
यजुर्विदं तथा याम्ये पश्चिमे सामवेदिनम् अथर्ववेदिनं तद्वद् उत्तरे स्थापयेद्बुधः //
yajurvidaṃ tathā yāmye paścime sāmavedinam atharvavedinaṃ tadvad uttare sthāpayedbudhaḥ //
A wise person should station the knower of the Yajurveda in the southern quarter, the knower of the Sāmaveda in the western quarter, and likewise the knower of the Atharvaveda in the northern quarter.
This verse is not about Pralaya; it focuses on Vastu/ritual protocol—how sacred space is ordered by directions through the placement of Vedic experts.
It reflects the duty to conduct rites and establish sacred spaces correctly: a king or householder should appoint qualified Vedic specialists and seat them in directionally appropriate places to ensure ritual order and auspiciousness.
It gives a directional seating/placement rule within a ritual or Vastu mandala: Yajurveda in the south, Sāmaveda in the west, and Atharvaveda in the north—supporting a harmonized, text-aligned spatial arrangement.
