Matsya Purana — Navagraha Sacrifice for Planetary Pacification and Prosperity
शयनानि सवस्त्राणि हैमानि कटकानि च कर्णाङ्गुलिपवित्राणि कण्ठसूत्राणि शक्तिमान् //
śayanāni savastrāṇi haimāni kaṭakāni ca karṇāṅgulipavitrāṇi kaṇṭhasūtrāṇi śaktimān //
A capable man should also give beds complete with coverings and garments, golden bracelets, sanctifying rings for the ear and finger, and necklaces (sacred neck-threads).
This verse does not address Pralaya; it lists recommended charitable gifts (dāna) such as bedding, garments, and auspicious ornaments, emphasizing merit through generosity according to one’s capacity.
It reflects dāna as a core duty of the gṛhastha (householder) and also of rulers: supporting social and ritual welfare through gifts—especially useful goods (beds, cloth) and valuable auspicious items (gold ornaments)—given in proportion to one’s means (śaktimān).
The ritual significance is in prescribing auspicious, “purifying” ornaments (pavitra) and neck-threads/necklaces as valid dāna items; it concerns ceremonial charity rather than Vāstu or temple architecture.
