Matsya Purana — Navagraha Sacrifice for Planetary Pacification and Prosperity
नवग्रहमखात्सर्वं लक्षहोमे दशोत्तरम् भक्ष्यान्दद्यान्मुनिश्रेष्ठ भूषणान्यपि शक्तितः //
navagrahamakhātsarvaṃ lakṣahome daśottaram bhakṣyāndadyānmuniśreṣṭha bhūṣaṇānyapi śaktitaḥ //
Having completed everything connected with the sacrifice to the Nine Planets (Navagraha), one should perform a homa of one hundred thousand offerings, plus ten more; and, O best of sages, one should give gifts of food and also ornaments, according to one’s capacity.
This verse does not address pralaya; it focuses on ritual completion for a Navagraha sacrifice, emphasizing homa counts and charitable gifting.
It frames an ethical duty of dāna (charity) tied to ritual practice: after performing prescribed homa, one should donate food and valuables in proportion to one’s means—an ideal standard for householders and rulers alike.
Ritually, it specifies a lakṣa-homa (100,000 offerings) with an additional ten, and mandates concluding gifts (food and ornaments), reflecting the Matsya Purana’s emphasis on completing rites with dāna.
