Matsya Purana — Mandāra-Saptamī Vrata
पश्चिमे वेदधाम्ने च वायव्ये चण्डभानवे पूष्णेत्युत्तरतः पूज्यम् आनन्दायेत्यतः परम् //
paścime vedadhāmne ca vāyavye caṇḍabhānave pūṣṇetyuttarataḥ pūjyam ānandāyetyataḥ param //
In the western quarter one should worship the deity called Vedadhāman; in the north-west, Caṇḍabhānu; to the north, Pūṣan is to be worshipped; and beyond that, Ānandāya is to be revered.
This verse is not about Pralaya; it belongs to the Vastu/ritual instructions section, prescribing which named deities are to be worshipped in specific directions as part of sacred spatial ordering.
It guides a king or householder in correctly orienting worship within a built space (home, shrine, or temple), reflecting the Matsya Purana’s emphasis that righteous living includes properly performed rituals aligned with sacred directions.
It assigns particular deities to the west, north-west, and north, indicating a Vastu-based directional worship map used when laying out or consecrating spaces and performing dik-oriented puja in Puranic temple architecture.
