Matsya Purana — Mandāra-Saptamī Vrata
मन्दारसप्तमीम् एताम् ईप्सितार्थफलप्रदाम् यः पठेच्छृणुयाद्वापि सर्वपापैः प्रमुच्यते //
mandārasaptamīm etām īpsitārthaphalapradām yaḥ paṭhecchṛṇuyādvāpi sarvapāpaiḥ pramucyate //
Whoever recites, or even listens to, this account of the Mandāra-Saptamī—bestowing the fruits of desired aims—is freed from all sins.
This verse is not about Pralaya; it is a phalaśruti stating that reciting or hearing the Mandāra-Saptamī observance grants desired results and removes sins.
It promotes dharmic conduct through śravaṇa (listening) and pāṭha (recitation) of vrata-mahātmya; for householders (and rulers), supporting and observing such rites is presented as a means of ethical purification and attainment of legitimate aims.
The ritual significance is the efficacy of the Mandāra-Saptamī vrata-mahātmya itself: merely reciting or listening is said to confer desired fruits and cleanse sins, underscoring the Purāṇic emphasis on vrata observance and devotional hearing.
