Matsya Purana — Mandāra-Saptamī Vrata
अनेन विधिना सर्वं सप्तम्यां मासि मासि च कुर्यात्संवत्सरं यावद् वित्तशाठ्यविवर्जितः //
anena vidhinā sarvaṃ saptamyāṃ māsi māsi ca kuryātsaṃvatsaraṃ yāvad vittaśāṭhyavivarjitaḥ //
Following this prescribed method, one should perform the entire observance on the seventh lunar day (saptamī), month after month, for as long as a full year—free from deceit or miserliness regarding one’s wealth.
This verse is not about Pralaya; it focuses on vrata-dharma—how to sustain a ritual observance regularly for a year with moral purity.
It prescribes steady monthly religious practice and emphasizes financial integrity—performing vows without cheating, miserliness, or corrupt handling of resources, a key ethic for both householders and rulers.
The ritual significance is procedural: the observance is to be performed on Saptamī every month for a year, explicitly requiring sincerity and honest use of wealth in the rite and associated offerings.
