Matsya Purana — Lineage of Yayāti through Yadu and the Deeds of Kārtavīrya Arjuna
*ऋषय ऊचुः ययातेर्वंशमिच्छामः श्रोतुं विस्तरतो वद यदुप्रभृतिभिः पुत्रैर् यदा लोके प्रतिष्ठितम् //
*ṛṣaya ūcuḥ yayātervaṃśamicchāmaḥ śrotuṃ vistarato vada yaduprabhṛtibhiḥ putrair yadā loke pratiṣṭhitam //
The sages said: “We wish to hear, in full detail, the lineage of Yayāti. Tell us at length how it became established in the world through his sons, beginning with Yadu.”
This verse does not discuss Pralaya; it introduces a genealogical inquiry, asking how Yayāti’s lineage—especially beginning with Yadu—became established in the world.
Indirectly, it frames the Purāṇic emphasis on dynastic continuity and legitimate succession—key themes tied to royal duty (rājadharma), where a king’s line and heirs are portrayed as foundational to social order.
No Vāstu, temple-architecture, or ritual procedure is mentioned in this verse; its focus is on royal genealogy and the branching of lineages from Yayāti’s sons.
