Matsya Purana — Ila–Sudyumna Episode and the Expansion of the Ikṣvāku
धृतकेतुश्चित्रनाथो रणधृष्टश्च वीर्यवान् आनर्तो नाम शर्यातेः सुकन्या चैव दारिका //
dhṛtaketuścitranātho raṇadhṛṣṭaśca vīryavān ānarto nāma śaryāteḥ sukanyā caiva dārikā //
Dhṛtaketu, Citranātha, and the valiant Raṇadhṛṣṭa were born. And of Śaryāti there was also a son named Ānarta, and a maiden daughter named Sukanyā.
This verse does not describe Pralaya; it is a genealogical notice listing Śaryāti’s children, a typical Purāṇic method of preserving royal lineages.
Indirectly, it supports the Purāṇic ideal of dharmic kingship through lineage continuity—naming heirs and descendants underscores the royal duty to sustain order, succession, and social stability.
No Vāstu or ritual procedure is stated in this verse; its primary significance is historical-genealogical, providing context for later narratives connected with these figures.
