Matsya Purana — Genealogy and Classification of Sacred Fires
तैरेवं तु प्रसंख्यातं साम्प्रतानागतेष्विह मन्वन्तरेषु सर्वेषु लक्षणं जातवेदसाम् //
tairevaṃ tu prasaṃkhyātaṃ sāmpratānāgateṣviha manvantareṣu sarveṣu lakṣaṇaṃ jātavedasām //
Thus, by them (the sages), the characteristics of Jātavedas—Agni and the fire-deities—have been duly enumerated here for all the Manvantaras, both the present and those yet to come.
It frames cosmic time through Manvantaras (repeating epochs), implying an ordered cycle of world-periods; while not describing Pralaya directly, it supports the Purāṇic view that cosmic structures recur across successive ages.
Indirectly, it situates dharma and social order within Manvantara-based timekeeping: royal and household duties are understood as part of a divinely ordered cosmic rhythm, with rites (especially fire-rites) anchored in Agni/Jātavedas.
Ritually, it highlights Jātavedas (Agni) whose “lakṣaṇa” underpins yajña and domestic fire practices; this verse itself does not give Vāstu rules but signals a technical cataloging style used elsewhere for ritual and iconographic specifications.
