Matsya Purana — Emergence of Brahmā from the Golden Lotus and the Lotus-Form Earth
तच्च पद्मं पुराणज्ञाः पृथिवीरूपमुत्तमम् नारायणसमुद्भूतं प्रवदन्ति महर्षयः //

And that lotus—those who know the Purāṇas declare it to be the supreme form of the Earth; the great seers proclaim that it arose from Nārāyaṇa.
It emphasizes a creation principle: the cosmic lotus is identified with the Earth’s supreme form and is said to originate from Nārāyaṇa, indicating that cosmic manifestation proceeds from Vishnu/Nārāyaṇa even across cycles.
By grounding the Earth and its order in a divine source (Nārāyaṇa), the verse supports the Purāṇic ethic that kings and householders should preserve earthly order (dharma, stability, protection of land) as a sacred trust rather than mere possession.
The lotus-as-Earth motif underlies later Vāstu and temple symbolism where the ground-plan (maṇḍala) is treated as a sacred field emerging from cosmic order—encouraging ritually pure site-consecration and “cosmic alignment” in construction.
