Matsya Purana — Cosmic Creation: Emergence of the Great Elements and the Navel-Lotus

From the radiance of the Self arose the holy waters, comparable to the taste of nectar. Ether (ākāśa) arose from space/opening, and wind (vāyu) was born from ether.
It sketches a cosmological sequence where elemental principles emerge in order—waters from the Self’s radiance, ether from “space/opening,” and wind from ether—implying a structured re-manifestation after dissolution.
By grounding life in purifying waters and the ordered elements, it supports dharmic living: cleanliness, ritual purity, and reverence for natural forces (water, air, space) that sustain society and kingship.
Ākāśa as “space/opening” and vāyu arising from it echoes Vastu logic: openings, courtyards, and ventilation (vāyu) depend on planned spatial voids (ākāśa), while sacred water remains central to consecration and purification rites.
