Matsya Purana — Code of Conduct and Vow-Procedure for Courtesans
ततस्त्रयोदशे मासि सम्प्राप्ते तस्य भामिनी विप्रस्योपस्करैर्युक्तां शय्यां दद्याद्विलक्षणाम् //
tatastrayodaśe māsi samprāpte tasya bhāminī viprasyopaskarairyuktāṃ śayyāṃ dadyādvilakṣaṇām //
Then, when the thirteenth month arrives, his wife should present to a Brahmin a distinguished bed, complete with its proper furnishings and accessories.
This verse does not discuss Pralaya; it focuses on dāna-dharma—merit gained through prescribed charitable gifts in a householder’s religious life.
It frames household duty as shared: the wife participates directly in merit-making by offering a properly furnished bed to a learned Brahmin, reflecting the Matsya Purana’s emphasis on disciplined, periodic charity.
The ritual point is śayyā-dāna (gift of a bed) with upaskara—i.e., not a bare object but a complete, serviceable donation prepared according to propriety.
