Matsya Purana — Characteristics of Dvāpara and Kali Yugas
प्रक्रिया कल्पसूत्राणां भाष्यविद्याविकल्पनम् स्मृतिशास्त्रप्रभेदाश्च प्रस्थानानि पृथक् पृथक् //
prakriyā kalpasūtrāṇāṃ bhāṣyavidyāvikalpanam smṛtiśāstraprabhedāśca prasthānāni pṛthak pṛthak //
The procedural methods of the Kalpa-sūtras, the various disciplines of commentary (bhāṣya) and learning, the diverse branches of Smṛti-śāstra, and the distinct doctrinal standpoints (prasthānas)—all are set forth separately, each in its own category.
This verse does not describe Pralaya directly; it frames how sacred knowledge is organized—ritual procedure (Kalpa), commentary traditions (bhāṣya), and Smṛti branches—suggesting that even across cosmic cycles, dharma-knowledge is preserved through structured disciplines.
By distinguishing Smṛti-śāstra branches and procedural Kalpa traditions, the verse implies that royal governance and household conduct should be guided by the appropriate, well-classified sources—ritual rules for rites, Smṛti norms for law and ethics, and recognized doctrinal standpoints for interpretation.
The explicit ritual significance is the mention of Kalpa-sūtra procedures (prakriyā), indicating that rites must follow codified manuals; architecturally it is indirect, but such classification supports how Vāstu/temple-ritual prescriptions are treated as distinct śāstric domains within an ordered curriculum.
