Adhyaya 78 — Hymn to Surya and the Distribution of Solar Splendour; Genealogy of Vaivasvata and Chaya’s Line
न शून्यभूतैः श्रोतव्यमेतत्तु सफलं भवेत् । सर्वकारणभूताय निष्ठायै ज्ञानचेतसाम् ॥
na śūnyabhūtaiḥ śrotavyametattu saphalaṃ bhavet / sarvakāraṇabhūtāya niṣṭhāyai jñānacetasām
This should not be listened to by those who are empty (without earnestness); then it becomes fruitful. It is meant for the steadfastness of those whose minds are set on knowledge, and for realizing the One who is the cause of all.

Scripture is effective when approached with sincerity and preparedness. The ethical implication is cultivation of inner fitness—attention, restraint, and genuine aspiration—rather than treating sacred recitation as mere performance.
Again primarily Dharma/Ācāra: it defines eligibility and the conditions for fruitfulness (phala) of listening/recitation, not dynastic or manvantara material.
‘Empty’ can indicate a mind scattered by rajas/tamas; ‘jñānacetasām’ points to sattvic clarity. The verse implies that mantra/stotra operates as a catalyst only when consciousness is aligned.
