Adhyaya 78 — Hymn to Surya and the Distribution of Solar Splendour; Genealogy of Vaivasvata and Chaya’s Line
स्वरूपधारिणीं चैमामानिनाय निजाश्रयम् ।
संज्ञां भार्यां प्रीतिमतीं भास्करो वारितस्करः ॥
svarūpadhāriṇīñ caimām ānināya nijāśrayam / saṃjñāṃ bhāryāṃ prītimatīṃ bhāskaro vāritaskaraḥ
And Bhāskara (the Sun), the restrainer of thieves (that is, the dispeller of darkness), brought this Saṃjñā—now bearing her own true form—back to his own abode, as his beloved wife.
The household is portrayed as a moral institution: reconciliation and rightful placement (return to ‘nija-āśraya’) restore social-cosmic order.
Vaṃśānucarita: it closes the separation motif and re-establishes the legitimate marital context for ensuing genealogical outcomes.
‘Vārita-taskara’ hints at consciousness as light: when inner ‘sun’ rises, the ‘theft’ of ignorance and moral lapse is checked.
