Vaiśampāyana said: “This man has never been seen by me before; he blazes like the sun. Though I reflect again and again, I cannot arrive at any certainty about him. Even after pondering his intention in coming here—the inner purpose of this bull among men—I still cannot grasp the truth of it as it really is.”
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse highlights the limits of inference: even sustained reasoning may fail when a person’s true nature or intention is concealed. It implicitly values careful discernment and restraint in judgment when certainty is not attainable.
The speaker describes encountering an unfamiliar, radiant hero and admits that despite repeated deliberation he cannot determine who the man truly is or what his inner purpose is in coming—building suspense around a concealed identity and motive.
