Educational Q&A

The verse highlights dharmic social conduct around marriage and alliance: the groom and his mother are escorted and honored by close kin and renowned protectors, reflecting responsibility, propriety, and the strengthening of righteous bonds between families.

After Virāṭa is pleased with the betrothal of his daughter to Abhimanyu and the visiting kings retire to their assigned lodgings, Kṛṣṇa’s kinsmen—named here as Anādhṛṣṭi, Krūra, Sāmba, and Niṣaṭha—arrive at the quarters bringing Abhimanyu together with his mother Subhadrā.
