Vaiśampāyana said: Bearing celestial weapons, those warriors surrounded Pārtha on every side. Then, closing in from all directions, they showered him with arrows—just as clouds pour down masses of water upon a mountain from every quarter.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse highlights the intensity of righteous combat and the testing of a hero under pressure: even when surrounded and attacked from all sides, steadiness and skill are demanded. It also underscores how the epic frames warfare through vivid natural imagery, suggesting that human conflict can resemble overwhelming forces of nature—calling for restraint, discipline, and mastery rather than panic.
A group of warriors, equipped with powerful (divine) weapons, encircle Arjuna (Pārtha). They then advance and unleash a dense volley of arrows from every direction, compared to clouds raining water upon a mountain.
