svanavantaṁ mahāśaṅkhaṁ balavān arimardanaḥ | prādhmad balam āsthāya dviṣatāṁ lomaharṣaṇam ||
Vaiśampāyana said: Then Arjuna, the mighty crusher of foes, braced himself and blew his great conch, resounding with a thunderous note—so terrifying to the hostile ranks that it made their hair stand on end. The act signals resolve and righteous confidence before battle, meant to steady one’s own side and unsettle aggressors.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
Righteous action in a just cause requires steadiness and courage; symbolic acts like sounding the conch express inner resolve, strengthen allies, and deter unjust aggression without abandoning dharma.
As the conflict intensifies, Arjuna forcefully blows his great conch. Its booming sound frightens the enemy forces, indicating Arjuna’s readiness and the psychological impact of a hero’s presence on the battlefield.
