Aśvatthāman’s Admonition to Karṇa on Boasting, Varṇa-Duties, and the Threat of Arjuna
Virāṭa-parva, Adhyāya 45
अजुन उवाच अहं वै कुरुभियोत्स्याम्यवजेष्यामि ते पशून्,अर्जुन बोले--मैं कौरवोंसे युद्ध करूँगा और तुम्हारे पशुओंको जीत लूँगा
arjuna uvāca | ahaṃ vai kurubhyo yotsyāmi avajeṣyāmi te paśūn |
Arjuna said: “Indeed, I will fight the Kurus, and I will win back your cattle.”
अजुन उवाच
The verse highlights kṣatriya-dharma: when injustice or aggression arises, a warrior must respond with firm resolve to protect rightful wealth and honor, acting decisively rather than yielding to fear or hesitation.
Arjuna declares that he will engage the Kurus in battle and will win back (or win over) the cattle at stake, signaling readiness to confront the Kaurava force in the unfolding Virāṭa episode.
