Aśvatthāman’s Admonition to Karṇa on Boasting, Varṇa-Duties, and the Threat of Arjuna

Virāṭa-parva, Adhyāya 45

एवं युक्ताड्ररूपस्य लक्षणै: सूचितस्य च । केन कर्मविपाकेन क्लीबत्वमिदमागतम्‌,(वह चिन्ता इस प्रकार है--) आपका एक-एक अवयव तथा रूप सब प्रकारसे उपयुक्त है। आप लक्षणोंद्वारा भी अलौकिक सूचित हो रहे हैं। ऐसी दशामें भी किस कर्मके परिणामसे आपको यह नपुंसकता प्राप्त हुई है?

“Your every limb and your very form are wholly fitting, and your marks themselves proclaim something beyond the ordinary. Even so, by what ripening of what deed has this condition of eunuchhood come upon you?”
