vaiśampāyana uvāca tataḥ sa pārtha vairāṭir abhyavadayad antikāt | ahaṃ bhūmiṃjayo nāma nāmnāham api cottaraḥ ||
Vaiśampāyana said: Then that prince of Virāṭa, approaching Pārtha at close range, respectfully greeted him, saying, “I am named Bhūmiṃjaya; and I too am called Uttara.”
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse highlights the dharmic value of respectful approach and formal greeting in royal and martial contexts—recognizing rank, establishing identity, and maintaining decorum even amid tense circumstances.
A prince of Virāṭa’s house comes near Arjuna (addressed as Pārtha) and offers respectful salutations, introducing himself by name as Bhūmiṃjaya/Uttara, thereby clarifying his identity within the unfolding events of Virāṭa’s court and campaign.
