The members of the assembly said: “He whose lawful wife is this virtuous woman—beautiful in all her limbs and with large, captivating eyes—has obtained a supreme gain in life. Such a man cannot grieve in any way.”
वैशग्पायन उवाच
The verse frames a virtuous and beautiful spouse as a ‘supreme gain’ (paro lābhaḥ), implying that righteous companionship and household dharma are sources of stability and freedom from despair; one blessed with such support is portrayed as not easily overcome by grief.
In the court setting, the assembled courtiers speak in admiration of a woman’s virtue and beauty, declaring that the man who has her as his wife is exceptionally fortunate and therefore not prone to lamentation.
