Virāṭa-parva Adhyāya 13 — Kīcaka’s Proposition and Draupadī’s Dharmic Refusal
वीरौ परमसंहृष्टावन््योन्यजयकाड्क्षिणौ | आसीत् सुभीम: सम्पातो वज्रपर्वतयोरिव
vaiśampāyana uvāca | vīrau paramasaṁhṛṣṭāv anyonyajayakāṅkṣiṇau | āsīt subhīmaḥ sampāto vajraparvatayor iva ||
Vaiśampāyana said: The two heroes, exultant and each longing to conquer the other, closed upon one another with a most dreadful rush—like the collision of a thunderbolt and a mountain. The verse underscores the intoxicating pull of victory in combat, while hinting at the grave consequences when prowess is driven chiefly by the desire to overpower.
