puṇye girau surāṣṭreṣu mṛga-pakṣi-niṣevite | ujjayante sama-taptāḍhyo nākapṛṣṭhe mahīyate ||
Dhaumya said: “In the land of Surāṣṭra there is a sacred mountain, frequented by deer and birds. One who performs austerities there—at Ujjayanta, endowed with steadfast, well-sustained tapas—is honored in the heavenly world.”
धौम्य उवाच
Austerity performed in a sacred place, with steadiness and discipline, generates spiritual merit that culminates in honor in heaven; the verse links ethical self-restraint (tapas) with transcendent reward.
Dhaumya is describing a holy site—Ujjayanta in Surāṣṭra—and stating the फल (result) of undertaking tapas there: the practitioner becomes revered in svarga.
