Dhaumya said: “On the northern route of the Praveṇī, and at the holy hermitage of Kaṇva as well, I have described—just as I have heard in tradition—the forest retreats fit for ascetics.”
धौम्य उवाच
The verse emphasizes reverence for sacred geography and the authority of received tradition (yathāśruti): holy places and forest hermitages are to be known, remembered, and approached as environments that support tapas (austerity), restraint, and dharmic living.
Dhaumya is guiding the listeners by listing or pointing out holy forest regions and ascetic retreats, including the sacred hermitage of Kaṇva on the northern route of the Praveṇī, presenting this account as based on what he has heard in established tradition.
