Dhaumya’s Enumeration of Eastern Tīrthas
Prācī-diś Tīrtha-kathana
तव धर्मेण धर्मज्ञ नित्यमेवाभितोषिता: । अवाप्स्यसि त्वं लोकान् वै वसूनां वासवोपम । कीर्ति च महतीं भीष्म प्राप्स्यसे भुवि शाश्वतीम्
tava dharmeṇa dharmajña nityam evābhitoṣitāḥ | avāpsyasi tvaṁ lokān vai vasūnāṁ vāsavopama | kīrtiṁ ca mahatīṁ bhīṣma prāpsyase bhuvi śāśvatīm ||
O knower of dharma, by your steadfast righteousness the gods are ever pleased. Therefore, O Bhīṣma—peer of Vāsava (Indra)—you shall attain the worlds of the Vasus; and on earth you will win a great and enduring fame.
पुलस्त्य उवाच
Steadfast adherence to dharma pleases the divine order and bears two fruits: spiritual attainment (higher worlds) and lasting moral reputation on earth.
Pulastya addresses Bhīṣma, commending his unwavering righteousness and prophesying the rewards it will bring—access to the realms of the Vasus and enduring fame among people.
