Guhā (Kārttikeya) was then consecrated by the gods to the office of commander of their hosts. O best of the Kurus, to the east of the Taijasa-tīrtha lies the Kuru-tīrtha—a sacred ford associated with Varuṇa and famed for its self-luminous splendor, where Brahmā and other deities, along with ascetic seers, performed the anointing of Kārttikeya as the leader of the divine army.

Educational Q&A

The passage highlights the sanctity of tīrthas and the ethical idea that rightful authority—especially military leadership—should be established through legitimate consecration and divine/communal sanction, not mere force.

The speaker points out sacred sites: Taijasa-tīrtha and, to its east, Kuru-tīrtha, recalling the mythic event where the gods anointed Guha (Kārttikeya) as their commander-in-chief.
