Damayantī’s Svayaṃvara: Divine Disguises, Truth-Vow, and Choosing Nala
तावर्चयित्वा मघवा तत: कुशलमव्ययम् | पप्रच्छानामयं चापि तयो: सर्वगतं विभु:,उन दोनोंकी पूजा करके भगवान् इन्द्रने उनसे उन दोनोंके तथा सम्पूर्ण जगत्के कुशल- मंगल एवं स्वस्थताका समाचार पूछा
tāv arcayitvā maghavā tataḥ kuśalam avyayam | papracchānāmayaṃ cāpi tayoḥ sarvagataṃ vibhuḥ ||
Having first honored them with worship, Maghavān (Indra), the all-pervading and mighty lord, then inquired after their unfailing welfare—asking both about their well-being and freedom from illness, and also about the auspicious state of the world at large. The scene underscores a ruler’s dharmic courtesy: reverence before inquiry, and concern that extends beyond oneself to the wider order of beings.
