sāntvayitvā śubhair vākyaiḥ smayamāno ’bhyabhāṣata | suputrā ’dya pṛthā tāta tvayā putreṇa sattama ||
Having consoled her with auspicious and reassuring words, he spoke with a gentle smile: “O Pṛthā (Kuntī), today you are truly blessed with a noble son—your son is the best of men.”
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse highlights an ethical ideal: offering consolation through kind and auspicious speech, and affirming virtue by praising noble conduct (a ‘best of men’ son) rather than mere power or status.
Vaiśampāyana narrates that a speaker (unnamed here) comforts Pṛthā (Kuntī) with gentle words and, smiling, declares her blessed because her son is exceptionally virtuous and eminent.
