Dhṛtarāṣṭra and Sañjaya on Arjuna’s Indraloka report and the political consequences

Vaiśaṃpāyana said: Her mind, deeply pierced and inflamed by Manmatha (the god of love), turned toward a supreme couch—broad and excellent—spread with divine coverings. Overpowered by desire and absorbed in the thought of her beloved, she inwardly envisioned a splendid bed prepared for union, and in her imagination she saw Arjuna, the son of Kuntī, come near and delighted with him. The passage highlights how unchecked passion can seize the mind and create compelling inner fantasies, even before any outward act occurs.

Educational Q&A

The verse underscores how kāma (desire) can wound and inflame the mind, producing vivid inner projections that feel real; ethical vigilance begins at the level of thought, before speech or action.

A woman, overcome by passion stirred by Manmatha, mentally fixes upon an excellent, divinely spread bed and imagines Arjuna coming to her; the scene depicts desire-driven fantasy as part of the unfolding episode.
