Śiva Grants the Pāśupata Astra (Pāśupata-Śastra Upadeśa) | शिवेन पाशुपतास्त्रदानम्
मया समुद्यतान् पाशान् वारुणाननिवारितान् । प्रतिगृह्लीष्व कौन्तेय सरहस्यनिवर्तनम्,“कुन्तीकुमार! मेरे दिये हुए इन वरुण-पाशोंको रहस्य और उपसंहारसहित ग्रहण करो। इनके वेगको कोई भी रोक नहीं सकता
mayā samudyatān pāśān vāruṇān anivāritān | pratigṛhlīṣva kaunteya sa-rahasya-nivartanam ||
Vaiśampāyana said: “O son of Kuntī, accept from me these Varuṇa-nooses, already set in readiness and irresistible in their force. Receive them together with their secret method and the proper means of withdrawal, so that power is held with restraint and used with discernment.”
