Arjuna’s journey to Indrakīla and encounter with Indra
रमणीये वनोद्देशे रममाणो<र्जुनस्तदा । तपस्युग्रे वर्तमान उग्रतेजा महामना:,उग्र तेजस्वी महामना अर्जुन वहाँ वनके रमणीय प्रदेशोंमें घूम-फिरकर बड़ी कठोर तपस्यामें संलग्न हो गये
ramaṇīye vanoddeśe ramamāṇo 'rjunas tadā | tapasy ugre vartamāna ugra-tejā mahā-manāḥ ||
Vaiśampāyana said: At that time Arjuna, delighting in a lovely tract of forest, moved about there and devoted himself to severe austerities—his radiance intense and his resolve great.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse highlights tapas—disciplined austerity and self-mastery—as a legitimate path to increase spiritual potency and readiness for dharmic responsibility, showing that power is to be earned through restraint rather than impulse.
Vaiśampāyana describes Arjuna in a beautiful forest region, roaming there and undertaking intense austerities; it marks a phase of purposeful withdrawal and rigorous practice as he prepares to secure strength and support for the larger struggle.
