Dharma-śaṅkā-nivāraṇa: Yudhiṣṭhira’s Response on Karma-Phala and Trust in Dharma
ततः प्रवर्तते पश्चात् कारणैस्तस्य सिद्धये । तां सिद्धिमुपजीवन्ति कर्मजामिह जन्तवः,तदनन्तर उन्हीं उपायोंद्वारा उस कार्यकी सिद्धिके लिये प्रवृत्त होना चाहिये। सभी प्राणी इस जगतमें उस कर्मजनित सिद्धिका सहारा लेते हैं
tataḥ pravartate paścāt kāraṇais tasya siddhaye | tāṁ siddhim upajīvanti karmajām iha jantavaḥ ||
“Thereafter, one should set oneself in motion—using the appropriate means—for the accomplishment of that objective. For in this world, living beings sustain themselves by relying upon the success that arises from their own actions.”
युधिछिर उवाच
After forming an aim, one must actively employ suitable means to accomplish it; worldly life and welfare depend on achievements that arise from one’s own actions (karma), not on mere intention.
Yudhiṣṭhira states a principle of practical dharma: once a goal is set, one should proceed with the proper instruments and causes to secure its success, noting that beings in the world subsist by action-born attainments.
