सान्त्वितश्न यथाशक्ति पूजितश्न यथाविधि । न चान्यं॑ स द्विजश्रेष्ठ; कामयामास वै वरम्,कर्णने उन्हें यथाशक्ति बहुत समझाया एवं विधि-पूर्वक उनका पूजन किया। तथापि उन द्विजश्रेष्ठने और किसी वरको लेनेसे अनिच्छा प्रकट कर दी
sāntvitaś ca yathāśakti pūjitaś ca yathāvidhi | na cānyaṃ sa dvijaśreṣṭhaḥ kāmayāmāsa vai varam ||
Vaiśampāyana said: He consoled him as best he could and honored him according to proper rite; yet that best of Brahmins did not wish to ask for any other boon.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
One should offer consolation and honor within one’s means and according to proper conduct; likewise, a virtuous person may show restraint by refusing further boons, indicating contentment or principled non-attachment.
The narrator states that someone has tried to pacify and ritually honor an eminent Brahmin, but despite this respectful treatment, the Brahmin declines to request any additional boon.
