रक्षन्तु त्वां सुरा: सर्वे समेषु विषमेषु च । वेत्स्यामि त्वां विदेशेषपि कवचेनाभिसूचितम्,“आदित्य, वसु, रुद्र, साध्य, विश्वेदेव, इन्द्रसहित मरुदगण, दिक्पालोंसहित दिशाएँ तथा समस्त देवता सभी सम-विषम स्थानोंमें तेरी रक्षा करें। यदि विदेशमें भी तू जीवित रहेगा तो मैं इन कवच-कुण्डल आदि चिह्लोंसे उपलक्षित होनेपर तुझे पहचान लूँगी
rakṣantu tvāṃ surāḥ sarve sameṣu viṣameṣu ca | vetsyāmi tvāṃ videśeṣv api kavacenābhisūcitam || āditya-vasu-rudra-sādhya-viśvedeva-indra-sahita-marud-gaṇāḥ, dik-pālaiḥ sahitā diśaś ca tathā samastā devatāḥ sarve sameṣu viṣameṣu ca te rakṣāṃ kurvantu | yadi videśe 'pi tvaṃ jīvitaḥ bhaviṣyasi, tadāham etaiḥ kavaca-kuṇḍalādi-cihnaiḥ upalakṣitaṃ tvāṃ vijñāsyāmi ||
Vaiśaṃpāyana said: “May all the gods protect you—whether the ground is even or perilous. I shall recognize you even in foreign lands, marked out by your armor. May the Ādityas, Vasus, Rudras, Sādhyas, the Viśvedevas, Indra together with the hosts of Maruts, the directions along with their guardians, and indeed all the deities keep you safe in every safe and unsafe place. If you remain alive even abroad, then, distinguished by these signs—your armor, earrings, and the like—I will know you.”
वैशग्पायन उवाच
The verse frames protection as both a divine and ethical concern: one should wish safety for another in all conditions—easy and perilous—and trust that righteous guardianship (symbolized by the gods and the guardians of directions) extends beyond familiar territory. It also highlights the role of identifying marks (armor, earrings) as practical means for recognition amid uncertainty.
A blessing is being pronounced for someone who may travel or be separated, invoking multiple classes of deities and the guardians of the directions to protect him everywhere. The speaker adds that even if he is in foreign lands, she will be able to recognize him by distinctive signs such as his armor and earrings.
