Yudhiṣṭhira said: “All lights abide in you; you are the lord of every luminary. In you are established truth and purity, and all dispositions that are sāttvika. Thus you stand as the supreme source and measure of radiance and moral clarity, before whom even other mighty beings cannot equal in splendor or influence.”

Educational Q&A

The verse presents the Sun as the archetypal source of illumination and, symbolically, of moral clarity: truth (satya) and purity (sattva) are said to be grounded in the divine. Ethically, it links inner virtue with the principle of light—what reveals, guides, and sustains dharma.

Yudhiṣṭhira addresses a deity in the mode of stuti (praise), exalting the Sun as supreme among luminous powers and as the seat of truth and sāttvika qualities. The speech functions as reverent invocation, establishing the deity’s greatness before seeking favor or guidance.
