Yudhiṣṭhira said: “Across all the worlds—indeed, throughout the seven realms including Brahmaloka—I do not think there exists any being who surpasses the Sun. O revered one, there are many mighty and powerful beings in the universe, yet their radiance and influence are not equal to yours. All luminous substances are contained within you; you are the lord of all lights. Truth, purity, and every sāttvika disposition stand established in you. Even the Sudarśana discus—by which Viṣṇu, bearer of the Śārṅga bow, crushed the pride of the Dānavas—was fashioned by Viśvakarman from your very splendor.”

Educational Q&A

The verse elevates the Sun as the supreme visible source of light and moral-spiritual clarity: all radiance is rooted in the Sun’s tejas, and virtues like satya (truth) and sattva (purity) are portrayed as grounded in that luminous principle. It frames cosmic power as meaningful when aligned with truth and purity.

Yudhiṣṭhira offers a hymn-like praise to Sūrya, declaring that no being across the seven worlds surpasses him. He links major divine instruments—especially Viṣṇu’s Sudarśana discus crafted by Viśvakarman—to the Sun’s splendor, thereby situating Sūrya at the center of cosmic order and divine efficacy.
