sāvitry uvāca: hṛtaṃ purā me śvaśurasya dhīmataḥ svam eva rājyaṃ labhatāṃ sa pārthivaḥ | jahyāt svadharmaṃ na ca me gurur yathā dvitīyam etad varayāmi te varam ||
Sāvitrī said: “My wise father-in-law, whose own kingdom was taken from him long ago, should regain that very sovereignty. And may my revered elder—my guru—never abandon his dharma. This is the second boon I choose from you.”
Sāvitrī frames her request in terms of dharma: rightful kingship should be restored, and a respected elder should remain unwavering in svadharma. The verse highlights that true boons are those aligned with moral order and the stability of righteous life.
In the boon-granting dialogue, Sāvitrī asks that her father-in-law regain the kingdom previously taken from him and that he never fall away from his dharma. This is presented as her second boon.
