Educational Q&A

True and lasting renown is not merely social praise; it is the long-term remembrance that follows dharmic, world-benefiting action. When one’s deeds become a moral exemplar, their ‘kīrti’ is preserved in collective memory ‘as long as the earth endures.’

Mārkaṇḍeya, speaking within the Vana Parva context, offers a prophetic blessing/assurance to the addressed person: their story and fame will continue to be narrated for as long as the earth lasts, indicating extraordinary and enduring significance.
