Pṛthā’s Atithi-Sevā and the Gift of the Deva-Āhvāna Mantra
avekṣyābhyadravad vīraḥ saumitrir mitranandanaḥ | rākṣasena kumbhakarṇena sugrīvasyāpaharaṇaṁ dṛṣṭvā mitrāṇāṁ nandanaḥ sumitrākumāro vīravaraḥ lakṣmaṇas tasyaivābhidudrāva ||
Mārkaṇḍeya said: Seeing Sugrīva carried off by the rākṣasa Kumbhakarṇa, the heroic Lakṣmaṇa—son of Sumitrā, delight of his allies—rushed straight toward him. The scene proclaims the warrior’s duty: to shield companions and oppose adharma when the innocent are seized by force.
मार्कण्डेय उवाच
When wrongdoing takes the form of forceful seizure (apaharaṇa), dharma calls for prompt, courageous protection of companions and the vulnerable; loyalty to allies is presented as an ethical obligation of a kṣatriya-like hero.
Mārkaṇḍeya narrates that Lakṣmaṇa, seeing Sugrīva being abducted by the rākṣasa Kumbhakarṇa, immediately charges toward the abductor to stop the injustice and defend his ally.
