Rāvaṇa–Mārīca Dialogue and the Decoy-Deer Prelude to Sītā’s Abduction
मुदूगल उवाच महान्तस्तु अमी दोषास्त्वया स्वर्गस्य कीर्तिता: । निर्दोष एव यस्त्वन्यो लोकं तं प्रवदस्व मे
muḍūgala uvāca mahāntas tv amī doṣās tvayā svargasya kīrtitāḥ | nirdoṣa eva yas tv anyo lokaṃ taṃ pravad asva me ||
Muḍūgala said: “You have described to me these great faults that are said to belong to heaven. Now tell me of that other realm which is truly free from fault—declare it to me.”
मुदूगल उवाच
Even heavenly attainment (svarga) may be portrayed as having limitations or defects; the seeker should inquire beyond mere reward-based merit toward a truly faultless state or realm, implying a higher spiritual goal than heaven.
Muḍūgala responds to a prior description of the shortcomings of Svarga and asks the speaker to identify and explain an alternative realm or state that is genuinely free from defects.
