Draupadī’s Rebuke of Jayadratha and Dhaumya’s Admonition (Āraṇyaka-parva, Adhyāya 252)
क्रियामेतां समाज्ञाय कृतज्ञस्त्वं भविष्यसि । सौक्षात्रं पाण्डवैः कृत्वा समवस्थाप्य चैव तान्
kriyām etāṁ samājñāya kṛtajñas tvaṁ bhaviṣyasi | saukṣātraṁ pāṇḍavaiḥ kṛtvā samavasthāpya caiva tān ||
Vaiśampāyana said: “When you understand this course of action, you will become truly grateful. Having performed, together with the Pāṇḍavas, the rite/act connected with the Sūta lineage, and having duly settled them in proper order, you should proceed accordingly.”
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse emphasizes that right understanding of a prescribed duty (kriyā) leads to kṛtajñatā—ethical gratitude and recognition of obligations—followed by orderly, responsible action in coordination with others (here, the Pāṇḍavas).
Vaiśampāyana narrates an instruction: once the addressed person comprehends the intended procedure, they should carry out a duty/rite associated with the Sūta-related context and then properly settle or arrange the Pāṇḍavas, indicating a step-by-step completion of responsibilities.
