The Deer’s Dream-Appeal and the Move to Kāmyaka
(परै: परिभवे प्राप्ते वयं पञ्चोत्तरं शतम् | परस्परविरोधे तु वयं पञ्च शतं तु ते ।।) जानात्येष हि दुर्बुद्धिरस्मानिह चिरोषितान् । स एवं परिभूयास्मानकार्षीदिदमप्रियम्,दूसरोंके द्वारा पराभव प्राप्त होनेपर उसका सामना करनेके लिये हमलोग एक सौ पाँच भाई हैं। आपसमें विरोध होनेपर ही हम पाँच भाई अलग हैं और वे सौ भाई अलग। यह खोटी बुद्धिवाला गन्धर्व जानता है कि हम (पाण्डव) दीर्घकालसे यहाँ रह रहे हैं, तो भी इस प्रकार हमारा तिरस्कार करके इस चित्रसेन गन्धर्वने यह अप्रिय कार्य किया है
paraiḥ paribhave prāpte vayaṃ pañcottaraṃ śatam | parasparavirodhe tu vayaṃ pañca śataṃ tu te || jānāty eṣa hi durbuddhir asmān iha ciroṣitān | sa evaṃ paribhūyāsmān akārsīd idam apriyam ||
Yudhiṣṭhira said: “When humiliation comes upon us at the hands of others, we are a hundred and five brothers to meet it together. But when there is discord among ourselves, then we are only five on one side, and they are a hundred on the other. This ill‑judging Gandharva knows that we have been dwelling here for a long time; yet, scorning us in this way, Citraratha has done this offensive and unwelcome act.”
