चित्रसेन-समागमः / The Engagement with Citrasena and the Gandharvas
yac ca nāśnāti me bhartā sarva tad varjayāmy aham |
“Whatever my husband does not eat, I too renounce entirely.”
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse teaches disciplined devotion expressed through shared restraint: the speaker adopts the same renunciations as her husband, presenting fidelity as an ethical practice of aligning one’s habits with a chosen dharmic commitment.
In Vaiśampāyana’s narration, a woman (speaking in first person) declares her rule of conduct: she avoids whatever her husband avoids, emphasizing her vow-like commitment to mirror his dietary and personal restraints.
