Educational Q&A

The verse highlights gṛhastha-dharma: honoring one’s spouse through respectful reception—rising to greet and offering basic hospitality (a seat and water)—as an everyday expression of dharma and self-discipline.

A speaker (quoted by Vaiśaṃpāyana) describes her regular conduct at home: whenever her husband returns from work or travel—fields, forest, or village—she stands up to welcome him and offers him a seat and water as part of proper household etiquette.
