Mārkaṇḍeya said: “Of that semen, the remaining portion fell into the Lohita waters; another portion fell into the Sun’s rays, and yet another fell upon the earth. Thus, dispersed into different receptacles, it became the cause from which diverse, fierce, flesh-eating attendants (gaṇas) manifested—beings whose true nature is understood only by the discerning.”
मार्कण्डेय उवाच
The passage underscores that powerful causes can yield diverse effects depending on where and how they are received; discerning insight is needed to understand the origins and nature of formidable beings and events.
Mārkaṇḍeya explains how a generative essence (śukra) became divided and fell into different loci—Lohita waters, the Sun’s rays, and the earth—serving as the mythic cause for the manifestation of various fierce attendants (parṣadas/gaṇas).
