The great sage performed for the child all auspicious rites, and he also carried out the thirteen saṃskāras, beginning with jātakarma, the birth-rite.
मार्कण्डेय उवाच
The verse emphasizes that a child’s life should be consecrated through dharmic discipline and auspicious saṃskāras; ethical formation begins early through prescribed rites that align the individual with sacred order and responsibility.
Mārkaṇḍeya narrates that a great sage performed all the customary auspicious childhood rites for a boy—thirteen in total—starting with jātakarma, indicating the child’s formal initiation into a protected and dharma-oriented life.
