अपराधमिमं विदप्र क्षन्तुमहसि मेडनघ । जानामि तेजो विप्राणां महाभाग्यं च धीमताम्
aparādham imaṁ viditvā kṣantum arhasi medhānagha | jānāmi tejo viprāṇāṁ mahābhāgyaṁ ca dhīmatām ||
The brāhmaṇa said: “Knowing this offence of mine, you ought to forgive me, O sinless one of keen understanding. I know well the spiritual power of brāhmaṇas, and the great good fortune that attends the wise.”
ब्राह्मण उवाच
The verse highlights ethical repentance and the duty of forgiveness: one who recognizes a fault should seek pardon with humility, and the addressed person is urged to forgive, acknowledging the moral and spiritual stature (tejas) associated with the wise and with brāhmaṇas.
A brāhmaṇa speaker admits an offence and appeals for forgiveness, addressing the other party as “sinless” and “intelligent,” and justifying the plea by invoking his awareness of the spiritual potency and auspicious standing of learned brāhmaṇas and wise persons.
