Mārkaṇḍeya said: “O Blessed Lord, lotus-eyed One—if You are pleased with me, then let my understanding remain ever devoted to dharma and truth, and to the restraint of the senses. O my Master, let my practice of worship and remembrance of You never cease.”
मार्कण्डेय उवाच
The verse frames divine favor not as a request for power or pleasure, but as a request for inner virtues: steadfast commitment to dharma and truth, mastery over the senses, and uninterrupted devotional practice. It presents ethical self-governance and sustained worship as the highest boons.
Mārkaṇḍeya addresses the Lord with reverent epithets (“lotus-eyed”) and offers a prayer. He asks that his intellect remain anchored in righteousness and truth, that he maintain control over the senses, and that his devotion and practice of worship continue without interruption.
